BMRA to launch British Market Research AwardsBack

The British Market Research Association, the trade body which represents the majority of the UK's market research companies, is to launch the inaugural British Market Research Awards.

The awards will be presented at the BMRA's first combined conference and awards presentation and dinner in February 2001. The conference will be held at the Royal Society of Arts and the awards presentation dinner at the Savoy hotel.

Awards entries are invited in five categories: Marketing, Business Performance, Technology, Communications and Innovation. Winners in each category, who will receive a cash prize, will present their papers at the conference and the overall winner will receive the BMRA Trophy at the awards dinner.

For the awards the judging panel will be:

Marketing Week is the main conference sponsor.

Awards entries must be between 3000 and 5000 words excluding charts and tables accompanied by a summary of not more than 750 words and a copy on disk in Word format. World copyright of entries will pass to the BMRA.

Awards organiser Janet Weitz said: "Entries should demonstrate the full diversity of the research function ranging from data collection through to consultancy, modelling and strategy analysis. The predominant concern will be: did the research work make a contribution to business success?

Awards entries must be received by the BMRA Awards Secretary before noon on October 31.

BMRA chairman John Kelly comments: "These inaugural awards will, I am sure, become an important part of the market research calendar. They will help to provide a focus for the conference but, more importantly, help to demonstrate to research buyers and other interested parties the real and growing contribution market research currently makes to business success."

The conference part of the programme will also include contributions from the industry and a keynote speech by DTI minister Patricia Hewitt whose responsibilities include small businesses and e-commerce. Other speakers will be announced shortly.
